Application Guide for Universiti Malaya Residential College Accommodation
Who Can Apply?
Accommodation at Kolej Kediaman Universiti Malaya is available to registered UM students. The application process differs depending on your student category:
- New Local Undergraduates: Placement is automatically assigned based on your faculty/course during the university registration process.
- Senior Students: Must apply via the UTMHostel / UM Student Portal within the designated application period each semester.
- New Local Postgraduate Students: Apply by emailing the Accommodation Section at hep@um.edu.my, subject to availability.
- International Students: Contact the International House (IH) or apply through the Global Mobility Centre (GMC). Options include Komune Living, KL Gateway Residences, and other off-campus alternatives.
Application Steps for Senior Students
- Log in to the UM student portal during the open application window.
- Select your preferred Kolej Kediaman (subject to availability).
- Submit your application before the stated deadline.
- Await placement confirmation via email or student portal notification.
- Complete registration at the college office on the designated move-in date.
- Pay the room deposit and semester fee.
Accommodation offers are valid for one academic session (two semesters). Students must re-apply each new session.
Key Reminders for Applicants
- Apply early – spots are limited and competitive.
- Postgraduate and international students should apply directly to HEP UM.
- Students who no longer stay in college must return their room keys with a completed Borang Akuan Penyerahan Kunci.
- Accommodation is renewed per academic session, not automatically extended.
