Universiti Malaya publishes an official Buku Panduan dan Peraturan Kolej Kediaman that all residential students are expected to read and comply with. The guidebook outlines the procedures, rules, rights, and responsibilities of every student living in a Kolej Kediaman at UM.
The guide covers topics including room allocation procedures, visitor policies, room inspection protocols, disciplinary action, and the role of College Fellows (Felo). It is distributed to all new residents at the point of registration and is also available from the Student Affairs Department (HEP UM).
General Rules for Residents
- Students must register on the designated move-in date and comply with all check-in procedures.
- Rooms must be kept clean and tidy at all times. Inspections may be carried out by college staff.
- Visitors are subject to visiting hours and must sign in at the security post.
- Noise levels must be kept low, especially during study and rest hours (after 11pm).
- No cooking of hot food in rooms – only designated kitchen areas may be used.
- Alcohol, gambling, and prohibited substances are strictly not allowed on college premises.
- Room keys must be surrendered upon moving out. A completed Borang Akuan Penyerahan Kunci is required.
Role of College Fellows (Felo)
Each Kolej Kediaman at UM is overseen by academic staff known as Felo (College Fellows). Felo serve as mentors, counsellors, and administrators within the college, providing academic and personal guidance to residents throughout their stay.
Felo also play a key role in organising college events, monitoring student welfare, and enforcing residential regulations. Students are encouraged to engage with their Felo for support and guidance whenever needed.
Key Dates & Important Reminders
- Accommodation offers are valid for one academic session only.
- Students must check out before the end-of-session deadline.
- Failure to return room keys may result in charges or holds on student records.
- Changes to room allocation must go through the Accommodation Section of HEP UM.
- Any damage to college property will be charged to the responsible student.
